experience with ubantu & scala

1. install ubantu on vmware
2. install jdk 8

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer

3. install eclipse luna


4. Install SBT, download latest package from http://www.scala-sbt.org/release/tutorial/Installing-sbt-on-Linux.html

and run the following commands

  1. wget <latest package>
  2. sudo dpkg -i repo-deb-build-0002.deb
  3. sudo apt-get update
  4. sudo apt-get install sbt

5. Set up Scala project for eclipse with Gradle


plus, add

task wrapper(type: Wrapper) {
gradleVersion        =    '2.2.1'
garchiveBase        =    Wrapper.PathBase.PROJECT
archivePath        =    'config/gradle/wrapper/dist'
distributionBase    =    Wrapper.PathBase.PROJECT
distributionPath    =    'config/gradle/wrapper/dists'
jarFile            =     new File("${project.projectDir}/config/gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.jar")

and on terminal run the task –  “gradle wrapper

Running GAE apps on MAC terminal

1. Set up JAVA_HOME on PATH

export JAVA_HOME="Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_51.jdk/Contents/Home"
export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH

2. Set up MAVEN on PATH

export PATH=/Users/amitphatak/Documents/apache-maven-3.2.1/bin:$PATH

3. execute following commands -

  • mvn clean install
  • navigate to "-ear" directory
  • mvn appengine..
